WARDLY NEWS
October 2025 🍂
Welcome to fall, neighbors! As the cool air settles in and the leaves change into beautiful reds, oranges, and yellows, our community comes alive with seasonal activities. From apple picking at local orchards to enjoying the colorful leaves on neighborhood walks, fall brings many chances to connect with nature and each other. October also brings many fun spooky celebrations and harvest festivals that make our community such a special place to call home.
In this month’s newsletter, you’ll find important city updates, a list of exciting community events, and ways to get involved in shaping our neighborhood’s future. As you’re out enjoying the season, please remember that fall brings more walkers, bikers, and tourists admiring our beautiful area. #DidYouKnow that it’s illegal to turn on a red arrow and Vermont law requires drivers to stop for pedestrians in crosswalks? Let’s keep everyone safe as we enjoy all the fun this beautiful season has to offer!
📢 CITY NEWS 📢
WORK AROUND LOWER WELDEN & LEMNAH
You may have noticed construction on Lemnah Drive and Lower Welden. The city is upgrading our stormwater system to better handle heavy rainfall. Our aging infrastructure, in some areas, combines stormwater and wastewater, which can overflow, sometimes, into local waterways during storms. The new systems will capture excess water until our treatment plant can process it. Thanks for your patience during this important work.
COMMUNICATIONS
City staff is developing an electronic newsletter similar to this one. Please email suggestions for regular topics to erik@ward5vt.com.
BARLOW SCHOOL PARKING
A new city ordinance took effect in September to address vehicles using Barlow Street parking for illicit activities and trash dumping. Parking around Barlow Street School & Park, along both Barlow & Upper Welden Streets, is now limited to park hours only. Vehicles parked outside these hours may be fined.
#DidYouKnow – Veteran Flags
Following the city rebrand and downtown redesign, ongoing efforts have kept our little city looking beautiful year-round. This year, the city has launched an initiative to honor our veterans for two months in the spring. We’ll be hanging banners displaying portraits and names of hometown Veterans who’ve served our country. If you’re interested in adding a veteran, please contact the city office. Banners are $100 and will be hung during May & November. Deadline for this year is October 16 and it’s first come-first served.
